Scandinavian Park

September 7, 2010

The Scandinavian park in Minot, ND was quite a site. Representing 5 Scandinavian countries. Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland.

Visitor center and Wall of acknowledgements, Danish windmill, Pete and Jean by a Really big rock in front of the visitor center.

I didn't get the countries associated with these next buildings, but they were impressive. As we understood, the buildings were disassembled in the country of origin, shipped to Minot, and reassembled. We visited early in the morning, and caretaker said that it was too cold inside the buildings to open them. I'm not sure we understood that statement, as we were outside...where it was also cold. I'm guessing that they need volunteers on site to open the buildings...and that no one volunteered to stand around on a day that was a bit chillier than the few previous days.

Leif Erikson, of course, in the center of the park.

Peter and a troll inside the visitor center. :-)

Gol Stave Church - fashioned after the Stave church in Norway that was moved from Gol to Oslo many years ago. The "Stave" refers to the type of construction, and carvings...a style that was found primarily from 1200 - 1500 A.D.
