We stayed in a nice park east of town and took a ride around Bismarck to view the changes since 1986. Quite a few would be an understatement. Our 2-1/2 acres in the country looked like it might have been subdivided into 2 or 3 lots. Imperial valley looked like a forest...of course, as a new subdivision in the 80's had no trees. North of town was really built up...and we both marveled at having had absolutely no recollection of the penitentiary on the east side of town (which we had to pass on our way into town on Main Street.)
We were able to catch a bit of time with Ken and Karen Karls on Thursday evening. Ken was one of Ron's hunting buddies back in the day. Rep. Karen Karls had a busy schedule, as she is running for re-election. And she's still baking wedding cakes for the daughters, and perhaps even granddaughters of her early clients. [I wonder if she remembers that she gave Wendi lessons.]
Friday we had lunch with Dave and Dorothy Pokorny, Kay and her boyfriend...followed by golf at Tom O Leary...with daughter Kay and Dave. [Wondering if the Kelemen children remember junior golf lessons at Tom O Leary. ] I would have enjoyed Riverwood...but the cottonwood trees were out of control...almost like golfing in the snow...and Dave said the fairways are too narrow. So there you have it. We had great steaks, (Ron's) Caesar salad, and a wonderful time together on Friday night at Dave and Dorothy's home.
NOTE: We've been getting kind of lax lately in taking pictures...missed Dorothy altogether on this one. Just need another sticky note on the door to remember to take the camera with us. We'll do better...promise!!!!
