Little Big Horn

September 12, 2010

As we headed out for Livingston MT from Sheridan, WY we stopped at the site of Custer's last stand. Gravestones and markers for 7th Cavalry...Indians...and horses. The presentation was very interesting - laying out the course of action taken, and showing how the troops moved into action. There didn't appear to be much space to "hide" in the plains surrounding this high spot in the topography. And, the apparent lack of communication between the three contingencies of US soldiers created the state a chaos that allowed the massacre to occur. Half of the US soldiers were immigrants from Europe, and couldn't speak English, and the three groups were stationed 3-4 miles apart...too far for accurate communication.
