Bayfield

July 26-27, 2010

Bayfield, Wisconsin (north of Ashland @ 30 MI - on Lake Superior shore)

Our RV site at Apostle Island campground was well protected from the awful storms that came through on the 27th. (Whew!) A small quaint little town was busy with the summer tourist trade. Beautiful homes nestled on the bluffs overlooking Lake Superior.

Our first adventure in Bayfield took us...and the car...to Madeline Island.
Ya know, our car has never been on a ferry boat before, so we thought we'd give 'er a treat.
Not much on the island...drove in and out by several different roads, found a golf course that would allow us to play 9 holes at "twilight" for a mere $50, graciously declined, and settled in for a "toddy" as we awaited our return trip to Bayfield. We were once again reminded that the folks in Minnesota and Wisconsin actually recognize the "Brandy Manhattan" as a drink...not automatically made with bitters, cherries, and cherry juice...but with an option of pickled mushrooms or olives. What a hoot!! Of course, you can have cherries if you really want them.

The shoreline of Bayfield was really pretty. We had walleye sandwich for lunch. We're thinking we could get hooked on walleye. :)
